Your donation will support the Foundation's programs such as Believe Bundles which delivers thoughtfully curated care packages to patients receiving treatment for cancer and rare diseases. Each Bundle provides comfort during long hospital stays, practical resources for patients and caregivers, and a connection to a community that understands their journey.

About the Emily Whitehead Foundation

The Emily Whitehead Foundation was created by the family of Emily Whitehead.At five years old, Emily Whitehead was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a type of blood cancer that typically has an 85-90% chance of being cured in children. However, after receiving the standard treatment protocol, Emily relapsed twice and was recommended for hospice care.

Holding on to the belief that Emily could be cured, Emily’s parents Tom and Kari discovered a novel CAR T-cell therapy available as a clinical trial at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Previously untried on a pediatric patient, CAR T-cell therapy reprograms a patient’s own immune cells to fight cancer.Emily became the first child with cancer to receive CAR T-cell therapy. It was her last chance for survival. Emily is now cancer-free, a thriving college student and considered cured.

Today, the Foundation supports patients and caregivers affected by cancer and rare diseases and advocates for all patients who can be treated with advanced therapies.

We provide personalized support and education to help patients and families navigate the complexities of treatment. Through Believe Bundles, we deliver comfort and connection during difficult hospital stays while introducing families to a broader community of people who understand their journey.

We also amplify patient and caregiver stories, quantify their experiences, and bring their voices directly to scientists, clinicians, manufacturers, industry leaders, and policymakers. By connecting the people developing advanced therapies with the people whose lives depend on them, we work to humanize the treatment development process and address the barriers that prevent patients from accessing lifesaving care.
